I have a similar problem to the one you've described.I get the lock ups that you explained and I have to do a 4 second shut down then restart.
Now,when the computer goes to sleep automaticly you can't click on anything when I start it back up.The curser moves anywhere on the screen that I want but I can't click on any of the desk top fonts,the start button or any of the icons.
Again,I have to do a 4 second shut down to get it started.Sometimes more often then once.I'm concerned about the health of my machine if I keep doing this.
If you could sugget a remedy or repair for this I'd be gratefful.
