I have tried everything stated in your postings and more. And yet still I cannot get my pc to do either SD or DF. Now I can do a forced Scandisk, IF and ONLY if I turn the machine off without shutting it down and this will I know eventually tear up my HD. So I don't do it often, however it is sluggish and slow and I know it needs to be defragged. I've even tried setting up a maintenance schedule to have it done automatically to see if that would help. changed the settings to the basic defrag only. NOTHING works. Does ANYONE have a clue of what to do, I really dont want to reinstall Windows98 if I dont have to. It messes up all my settings and more. Please Help
