Got caught with this on Monday 26/4/99. That day is a public holiday in Australia or many more more people would have been affected. I am trying to ascertain if the virus triggers on the specific dat or post-date as some clients I know are still reluctant to turn on their machines.
As I had both primary & secondary IDE I lost only!!! my C: (primary) device and all my work (I am a developer) was on my D: device. Not only does Chernobyl re-write the Flash BIOS it trashes the primary IDE device and then burns the motherboard so you will never be able to run a primary IDE drive again. I am also of the understanding that resident email virus monitors could not detect Chernobyl. Why, as it's been around for many years from what I can gather.
Three things will now appease me ...
1)A soundproof room
2)Two baseball bats
3)The tossers who wrote Chernobyl
Have a great time re-building, I didn't.
