MS DOS Compatability Mode

My computer seems to be running in MS DOS compatability mode for some reason. I am using Win98 now but it was the same way when I was running Win95. I can only see this in safe mode where it says that all my drives are in that mode. It also says that it may be a program in my config.sys or autoexec.bat files, but I have nothing running in those. I was wondering if it could be a Motherboard problem or what? I just don't know.

I Have a :
AMD K6-2 300
SpaceWalker Shuttle HOT 591P
Samsung 6.4GB
ACER 8x CDROM
Matrox G100 AGP 8meg SDRAM

Any help would be greatly apreciated! I can't stand not getting all of the performance possible with what I have.
