Imagine for a minute you buy a new car. After 10,000 miles you decide you want different tires. You sell your used Goodyears and buy a set of Firestones. Shortly afterwards your starts running poorly and has trouble starting. You take your car to the dealer and they say "Sorry but we have a contract with Goodyear so we can not fix your car." If that happened there would be lawsuits as fas as the eye could see. Why is it different because we are dealing with software.
Call Dell, Gateway or any other major PC manufacturer. Tell them you want OS/2 or Unix installed instead. Most (if not all) will not do it because MS will not allow it. This is not a supply vs demand issue it is a monopoly issue. Go to your local Chevy dealer and ask for a different brand of tires or spark plugs and it may cost you a little more but you can get it. That is the fredom of choice.
If somone steals your car are you going to say "Well ain't that a bummer." NO, you will go to the police. Now if you are CEO of a company and a competitor takes business from you and BREAKS LAWS doing it are you going to say "Ain't that a bummer."
The company where I work as an MIS Network Technician has made IE3.02 as our browser. Now when we buy new PCs they have 4.0 loaded. We can not get the PCs without it. I have to remove it and install 3.02 on each and every machine we buy. The other option is to upgrade all our existing PCs to IE4.0.
: Some questions we should ask:
: 1.) when did all this start?
When MS started breaking laws.
: 2.) are there flaws in MS Operating systems?
Not enough room to list here!
: 3.) Do we really want the gov't involved?
I will ask you the same thing when you house is robbed.
: It seems this started with jealous rivals.
: There are flaws, and every opportunity to do it better.
: Hasn't the gov't screwed up enough?
: Frankly i'm glad we live in a capitolistic society, and Bill Gates
: has made the best of it, why should anyone take it away? The least he
: has given us is a standard if not anything else.
: I hope this is the last of this and that Bill and MS win.
: Thank you.
