Truth be known, novell is a tiny subset of the Y2K problem. Furthermore, my spouse is a CNE and administers 200 plus users. She is much more likely to be able to deal with it than joe/jane consumer. Furhermore, novell has some of the best support and support ethic in the business. So long as existing apps will run under new NOS versions, Net Admins will be faced with app problems much mor than with NOS problems. The computer industry has been sidetracked by consumerism with a disproportionate emphasis on sexy userinterfaces. There is nothing on the surface to warn a consumer whether or not their app is truly 2000 compliant and if it isn't they are pretty much naked and innocent with a snowballs chance in hell of recovering from data corruption with any data.
As MS Office 97 has clearly demonstrated, we have shrink wrap perfected and quality control neglected. I am hoping that if everybody gets burned a little quality control may finally approach that which is typically found only in a NOS like Novell or Unix.
Meanwhile, let's avoid tabloid style editorials.
Please and thanks,
Matthew
