Is Microsoft a monopoly? Of course, Gates has a
monopoly and he is abusing his power. He has overdone
it and if he can't see the light, it is about time that the attorneys hammered it into his head. Billions or no billions and tantrums notwithstanding.
The analogy is a gasoline comany, MS, that has a new
gas product (Wind) everybody wants and takes the market
by storm. They decide to branch out into the car market.
They custom tailor their Wind gas to blend perfectly
with their car lines, IE, Off, etc., and give their car
competitors, Net, etc. a hard time making use of the
specially formulated Wind gas features. Further, they
force dealers to sell IE and Off cars if they want to
continue receiving Wind gas.
This is not only a monopoly, this is a teaching example
of what an abusive monpoly is and it is difficult to
imagine a more blatant example.
Motivation behind all: Somebody became greedy and power
hungry. Strong reason for the government's injunction
to be granted immediately.
