I really don't watch that much TV as it is. If it were not for my children using the TV I probably would get rid of the cabvle connection.
The barriers I see would be that one could probably not use the computer for a computer while watching 'TV' on it. I think it more practical to keep them separate. I prefer the versatility.
Right now as I write, one child is watching Discovery Channel, and the other is using a game machine. That is two TV's. That's enough. If I need to see something, I can use both the computer and watch TV simultaneously.
And, as others have remarked, the content would have to be pretty good, and more intelligent than what is on TV now. I would look for the absence of a lot of subjects before bothering to use the computer for a TV.
I am not that hooked on 'converging' everything into one bucket.
