Adobe Prepares Updated Acrobat
by Dave Murphy
Adobe Systems, Inc. will released updated versions of its popular document delivery applications today. Adobe Acrobat converts electronic documents to Portable Document Format (PDF), a digital format that enables cross-platform transfer of files, including across operating systems.
Both Adobe Acrobat and the Acrobat Reader, a free application used for reading PDF files, will be upgraded to version 7 and unveiled today. The new Adobe Reader 7.0 allows commenting and editing of PDF files, a first for the application, if the document's originator enabled this functionality.
Dave's Opinion
While the new 7.0 versions of the applications won't be available for sale until later this year, These new versions are worth including in the 2005 budget. With an estimated 500 million users of the free Acrobat Reader and organizations encouraging electronic publishing, Adobe's products are positioned to command the market for cross-platform document delivery and editing.
