Windows NT/2000 Users Take HeartFree security service available
Microsoft Offers Free Security Serviceby Dave MurphyISSN 1535-3613
The free, online security tool reports the most common security holes that may still be open on a Windows NT/2000 system. These include Internet printing, advanced search functions and certain scripting technologies that enable viruses and worms to spread, Culp said. Microsoft Personal Security Advisor (PSA) is a web application for personal users of Windows operating systems. With a single click, users can check their system's security and receive links to free security patches that will close any holes that are found.
Dave's OpinionWhen I tested my workstation I was surprised that PSA found nine potential security holes on my system. I easily fixed each one, although during the patching process I had to reboot my system four times. The total process required about 30 minutes, but I'm glad Microsoft offered me some help.I suggest you visit this site and the Steve Gibson's Shields Up site. PSA and Shields Up are two free services that will help you secure your single workstation and your corporate network.
