Microsoft Releases Windows 2000 SP2

Microsoft has officially released Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

It ships internationally with 128-bit encryption and includes bug fixes, directory services fixes, application compatibility updates, and security patches.

The update addresses over 500 known issues in Windows 2000 and its associated SP1. It is available as a free download for registered users or can be ordered for delivery on a CD.

Windows 2000 SP2 doesn't include new features; however, it does supercede all previous fixes and updates. SP1 doesn't also have to be applied.

An initial caveat: reports are circulating that SP2 may compromise the hibernation mode on some laptops.

On the positive side, my desktop installation is significantly faster than SP1. I'm a happy camper.
