Intel Rolls Out 64-Bit Chip

by Dave Murphy
ISSN 1535-3613

Dave Murphy, DGL President & ITrain founder Intel Corp. will release it's 64-bit Itanium microprocessor on May 29.

Multiple hardware vendors will immediately include the chip in new high-speed servers and workstations. Servers running Linux, Windows 2000, HP-UX, AIX 5L and NetWare will be the initial target for Itanium vendors.

Intel's latest processor will be the company's first foray into 64-bit systems and could help it compete in the high-end server market now dominated by Sun Microsystems Inc. and IBM.
