Corel To Sell Linux Line

by Dave Murphy
ISSN 1535-3613

Dave Murphy, DGL President & ITrain founder Corel Corp., the Canadian vendor of Linux OS and software application products may be getting out of the Linux business. Today's rumor mill reports that Linux Global Partners (LGP) may purchase Corel's product line for $5 million in cash plus 20 percent influence in the new Linux company.

The details haven't been confirmed by any of the interested parties; however, I've been waiting for Corel to sell it's Linux line since former Corel CEO Michael Cowpland resigned in August. Cowpland was the primary Linux supporter in the company, and without his influence, I've been waiting for Corel to let Linux whither and die on the vine. A quick cash infusion, even if it's only five bills, is better than nothing.

I'm looking forward to learning the final outcome of these rumors -- will the Linux OS line be sold? What about WordPerfect for Linux and the other related applications?
