Section VII - Using Software Installed on the DGL

A) General Statement


Section A. General Statement

DGL's comes equipped with imagemaps and other standard software which is explained thoroughly in the DGL User's Manual. The software listed in this section is available for use by DGL customers as well. However, you must have a working knowledge of this software or utilize the resources listed here to develop one. DGL is responsible only for insuring that the software listed above is properly installed on the . We do not provide software support for these programs.

You may address questions concerning the software above to its developers or any other avenue of information. You may contact DGL about this software only regarding configuration errors The home page for each is listed in the appropriate section.

(Note: Support for Cgiemail and Majordomo can be found with the DGL User's Manual.)

1) HyperNews -message board system

The HyperNews message board can be created via the www off the DGL web site. Detailed information may be found in Section VIII of our FAQ.

2) mSQL -database

msql is physically located at /usr/local/Minerva/bin.

3) W3-mSQL -web based access to mSQL

w3-msql in the /www/cgi-bin directory.

4) PGP -pretty good privacy encryption method

PGP is installed on our systems. If you access your account via Telnet, you may configure PGP for your account with pgp commands. More information is available in the PGP User's Guide. You may also use a pgp version of formmail to send email securely via PGP.

5) Majordomo -list

If you wish to run a mailing list, please inform us of the name you wish to call your list as well as a password. You may email this information to host@dgl.com

6) Htmlscript -a preprocessor that converts htmlscript applets to standard HTML tags (Version 2.99)

To reference Htmlscript, you would use the following format:
http://www.YourDomain.com/cgi-bin/hts?Script_Name.hts
Place your scripts in a directory called public_hts off of your www directory.
The base directory where Htmlscript reads and writes to data files is your home directory.

7) PHP2 --side html-embedded scripting language

PHP2 is located at /www/cgi-bin

12) SSI & XSSI

To use SSI and/or XSSI, your html files must end in the extension .shtml
Here is some general information on SSI and XSSI:
While standard HTML files are fine for storing pages, it is very useful to be able to create some content dynamically. For example, to add a footer or header to all files, or to insert document information such as last modified times automatically. This can be done with CGI, but that can be complex and requires programming or scripting skills. For simple dynamic documents there is an alternative: -side-includes (SSI).

SSI lets you embed a number of special 'commands' into the HTML itself. When the reads an SSI document, it looks for these commands and performs the necessary action. For example, there is an SSI command which inserts the document's last modification time. When the reads a file with this command in, it replaces the command with the appropriate time.
