Corel Releases WordPerfect for Linux - For Free

Corel will make WordPerfect for Linux available for download free of charge, beginning December 22.

According to Corel, over 60,000 Linux users have already requested notification of the software's availability.

The 23.6MB program will be broken down into seven 3.5MB files to make downloading easier. Multi-language tools for French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Dutch language users are 6.5MB each.

WordPerfect 8 for Linux is a full-featured word processor. It includes:

• five language interfaces
• writing tools
• import/export filters
• email support
• HTML publishing
• all other standard word processing features

With this version of WordPerfect, corporate trainers will have a real opportunity to help information systems engineers bring the power of Linux to the corporate desktop. This is the program that corporate trainers have been waiting for - a true, must-have app that is the camel carrying Linux through the corporate tent flap.

The commercial version of WP8 for Linux will be in stores shortly, and will retail for about $70. This version will add drawing and charting modules, 130 fonts, Adobe Acrobat Reader, photos, clip art, document templates, and Netscape Navigator.
