New high-speed Win200 link to System Area Networks
Microsoft & Compaq Give Windows 2000 Link To SANS
System Area Networks (SANs) are local area networks optimized for high bandwidth and low latency. The SAN specification allows clusters of users to process the same application via very high-speed connections. The WinSock/SANs specification will be first released as part of Windows 2000, and it's scheduled to be in beta testing early next year. The primary benefit is the ability to service practically any IP (Internet Protocol) device on a network. With the SAN - WinSock combination, standard components will be able to function in concurrent partnership, enabling significantly greater immediate performance benefits.
