Microsoft Announces Windows 2000
The product now known as Windows NT Workstation will be known in the next version as Windows 2000 Professional. Here's the complete outline of the "2000" series: WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL: Targeted toward businesses, enthusiasts, and mobile users. This operating system will require a base PC similar to the current requirements of NT 4: Pentium Class processor (or better), 64MB RAM or more. WINDOWS 2000 SERVER: Formerly known as Windows NT Server, this version will network a small office or serve as a webserver. WINDOWS 2000 ADVANCED SERVER: formerly known as Windows NT Server Enterprise, this operating system is meant as a server for whole departments. Microsoft also announced a new server product, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server, for high-end use in areas such as science and engineering, enterprise databases, message servers, and collaboration servers.
