Netscape Communicator Security Fix
by Dave Murphy
ISSN 1535-3613
Netscape Communications on Tuesday released Communicator 4.07, which fixes a JavaScript security hole. The updated browser may be downloaded from Netscape Communication's web and ftpsites.
The fix prevents a website designer from launching malicious JavaScript apps that could read URLs (Uniform Resource Locators: the addresses of Internet sites) that are stored in a user's Netscape cache on the user's hard drive.
If you're not going to upgrade to version 4.07, Dave Murphy, of ITrain, the International Association of Information Technology Trainers, suggests that you disable the Netscape cache function by...
- Click EDIT
- Click PREFERENCES
- Click ADVANCED
- Click CACHE
- Click CLEAR MEMORY CACHE
- Click CLEAR DISK CACHE
- Enter the value of 0 (zero) into both the memory and disk cache sizes
- Click OK
