HomeSite 4.0 - Know Your Code
But, for the first time, HomeSite now features a design view that lets webpage developers create pages visually. This aids rapid delivery; however, most of the new features are geared for developers who know HTML and want to keep the pages fast and lean. The Tag Inspector helps developers see all the allowed attributes of a tag. The Tag Tree displays only the tags, removing all content, to show the roadmap of how the webpage is laid out. Users are interested in being able to quickly demonstrate their skills, they need to get the website up and running in a matter of hours. This version of HomeSite will help them do just that. HTML students, just like all students, want tools that will make their work easier and aid them in applying their knowledge. Murphy especially lauded the link verification and HTML validation features of HomeSite. HomeSite 4.0 supports Cascading Style Sheets 2 and the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL). The product can also color-code JavaScript, ASP, Perl, and Dynamic HTML for easier troubleshooting and authoring. The 32-bit version 4.0 for Windows 95/98/NT4 will ship in about a month. In the meantime, the beta program is open to the public.
