Netscape's looking to woo customers
Netscape Considers Giving Navigator Away Free
Netscape is negotiating with 30,000 Internet sites that now carry the "Best Viewed With Netscape" icon to also carry the "Customer Choice" icon. This links to Netscape's site and helps users replace their MSIE browser with Navigator. Netscape's business is growing, but they're finding the market for standalone Navigator shrinking. This means there's less for them to lose by giving Navigator away free. And in seeking new corporate customers for their SuiteSpot and other corporate products, Navigator becomes a loss leader, a teaser that encourages buying from Netscape. What do you think? Should Navigator become a free product? What's the real value of "free" software? Is it as good as"for sale" apps? Leave your comments at the DGL Message Center.
