New interface will make computing more accessible
Calling All Voice Recognition and Dictation Software
It's finally time to talk about voice-enabled apps. With fast processors, cheap memory, large hard drives, and two industry leader's interest, we'll be talking to our PCs before the end of '98. With widespread acceptance of voice interaction and a commitment from Microsoft, software interfaces will be changed forever. We already recommend IBM's ViaVoice dictation software to our clients who have at least 166MHz processors and 32MB or more of RAM. It's changing the way non-typists use technology, and it let's good typists work faster. Olympus is expected to announce soon that it has incorporated IBM's ViaVoice software into it's DP-1000 handheld dictation unit. The unit will store up to an hour of dictation and allow the converted text to be downloaded into a PC for word processing. ViaVoice could be the one "super-app" that helps business really use the power of the computers that are installed on each desk.
