Shared Internet access via a single dialup connection
RideWay - Concurrent Internet Access for LAN Users
The software application requires a Windows 95/NT workstation, one modem, and one ISP account. Using Microsoft's built-in dial-up networking functions, RideWay allows the modem to be shared by all LAN users for concurrent net access. User activity can be logged and the product generates formatted reports. Users can be restricted from accessing inappropriate sites or can be granted access to only specific sites. Connecting workstations can be running Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1x or MacOS. The product supports modem, cable modem, ISDN and routed connections to the ISP. While only one ISP account is required, workstations are able to concurrently access different and separate websites, newsgroups, and other net activities. The product allows access to separate SMTP/POP3 mail servers and mailboxes. Each workstation user is able to maintain a separate and private email box, even though access to the net is shared through one dialup connection. RideWay supports dial-on-demand functionality, and can be configured to drop the connection after a user-definable period of inactivity. RideWay's details are posted at: http://dgl.com/rideway/.
