Microsoft readies another Windows 95 update
Windows 95 OSR 2.5
Win95 OSR 2 was followed by OSR 2.1, which added support for the Universal Serial Bus. Now, we'll get at least one more version of Win95, OSR 2.5 before the launch of Windows 98 next year. OSR 2.5 reportedly will include all of the features of OSR 2.1 plus updated online services and the integrated Internet Explorer 4.0. If this sounds confusing to you, don't feel bad, many OEMs are also confused. And support technicians who offer telephone and onsite assistance can go nuts. This means there will be four versions of Windows 95 on corporate and home computers. And each version has it's own set of idiosyncrasies. That's why it's not a good idea to update your system files using any Windows 95 CD-ROM other than the one that came with your computer...the four versions aren't exactly alike.
