ViaVoice IBM releases new dictation software

IBM Releases ViaVoice by Dave Murphy ISSN 1535-3613 International Business Machines (IBM) has begun shipping its ViaVoice dictation software. ViaVoice, US$99 retail, includes a headset with microphone that can be linked through a PC sound card for text dictation to Microsoft Word. Integration with other word processors is also expected. Future releases of ViaVoice will incorporate voice commands for system functions, expanding the functionality of the product beyond text dictation. The software allows dictation speeds of up to 140 wpm and normal voice patterns, rather than the broken speech patterns required by other dictation software products.
