Dave Murphy, DGL President & ITrain founder The test copies of Memphis -- the code name for the next version of Windows -- are being readied for almost 10,000 reviewers and customers.

It could be released to the public by Christmas, but it's more likely to go on sale early next year. Its price and system requirements haven't been set. Nor has Microsoft decided on a final name for the product.

But just like it's predecessor, Win98 will be the one that everyone else wants. If not because it's new, at least so they can keep up with the Jones.

The most noticeable change is the interface which will be accesses through MS Internet Explorer 4.0--much like a website. The option of using the traditional Win95 icon-based interface is also available.

Memphis will make it easier to install devices such as scanners and digital cameras, improving on Windows 95's Plug and Play feature.
