Dave Murphy, DGL President & ITrain founder Microsoft has announced its new Internet software, Marble, which is designed to secure a financial institution's website.

Marble allows customers to securely view statements, transfer funds, and pay bills online. The platform is based on an open systems approach to financial software programming known as the Open Financial Exchange specification.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said his company would not be directly involved in financial transactions using the Marble platform. By providing the software, "we are an enabler," he said.

Marble is one part of Microsoft's strategy to expand its software offerings to banking and other financial concerns. It will join other financial products such as Investor, which allows users to access information about public companies and the stock market.

Marble is expected to be available in September.

Microsoft's website is http://www.microsoft.com/.
