Net Nanny Net Nanny lets parents and guardians control the sites their children visit on the Internet. Net Nanny, made by a company with the same name, has just released a new version of its software: Version 3.0. The newest version can control access to the Web, newsgroups and even chat areas. Parents can select several methods of access control. A list of restricted sites can be created. Or, the access can be restricted only to sites on a list or approved sites that's provided by the parents. Net Nanny also allows the offensive words and phrases to be blocked. Even phone and credit card numbers may be controlled so that the child can not enter them while visiting sites. The parent can choose what Net Nanny will do if a forbidden action is attempted. Options include logging the violation, warning the child, and immediately shutting down the application and computer altogether. The $40 program is now available in retail stores. Net Nanny requires a minimum i486 processor and Windows 3.x, 95, or NT. Net Nanny's website is http://www.netnanny.com/.
