Easy & Free File Transfers

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a skill that must be mastered by anyone creating webpages or uploading/downloading files from remote Internet sites.

Ipswitch's WS_FTP LE and WS_FTP95 LE (Limited Edition) simplifies the FTP process, concealing otherwise cryptic UNIX commands, and turning the commands into simple, mouse-clickable commands.

WS_FTP LE is the freeware version of WS_FTP Pro. Noncommercial and educational users can download and use the program from the Ipswitch website without restriction. The Pro version includes a few more features and is also available for download; it has a list price of $37.50.

Once installed using the downloaded .exe file, the program may be run using an icon in the Windows Program group.

At startup, a Session Profile dialog box allows you to use one of the preformatted host profiles or create new profiles of your own to match the systems you most often access.

You can transfer multiple files, rename files and directories on both your local drives and the remote server, and make new directories.

To transfer a file, click on its name in either the remote-server (the computer to which you're logged on) or local-drive (your computer) windows and press the directional arrow buttons that reside between the dual windows. While the files transfer, a Transfer dialog box pops up and displays the percentage of the file that has been transferred, the number of total bytes transferred, and the estimated time remaining.
