PageMaker 6.5
Online Publishing Features
Sidebar image map Adobe Systems Incorporated is about to release PageMaker 6.5 for the PC, and a month later the Macintosh version will follow.

Here's an overview of the features of PM6.5 that affect online publishing.

Hyperlinking and Hyperlinks Palette
Manage links using the new Hyperlinks palette. Create links from text and graphic objects within the publication or to external URLs. These links can be exported to HTML and PDF. While in PM6.5, the links may be browsed and tested.

Export Adobe PDF
With enhanced export-to-PDF functionality you'll be able to more efficiently create easy-to-distribute PDF (portable document format) files via your website. New features export more quickly than the current PM6.0, selected options are retained, and full support for Acrobat 3.0 and it's "streaming pages" is available--website visitors will be able to start reading your PDF documents even before the download is complete. PM6.5's CD-ROM includes Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Distiller for creating PDF files.

Export HTML
Convert print-based page layouts to HTML. Create hyperlinks in PM6.5 and automatically convert images to GIF or JPEG formats. PM6.5 will use the HTML tables features to approximate complex page layouts.

RGB Printing
Automatically use RGB color models when using a PPD (PostScript printer description) file (Acrobat Distiller PPD, film recorder PPDs, etc.) Create more vibrant colors for on-screen reading, and more closely match colors in PDF documents. Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and other browsers used on a 256-color display won't dither colors when RGB models are employed.

GIF/JPEG Conversion
PM6.5 automatically converts graphics, including vector-based PICTs, metafiles, EPS, and other formats to GIF or JPEG when the publication is exported to HTML. The format of each image being exported may be controlled. GIF export supports interlaced and transparent images. PageMaker 6.5 is scheduled for public release in November 1996.
